Are instant electric water heaters expensive to run?

Electric instantaneous hot water systems have to be connected to the day-rate tariff.

However, because there's no tank to lose heat, they're cheaper to run than day-rate electric hot water heaters. Modern models have better temperature control than older ones.

Check out our online calculator to see how much it will cost you to run your hot water through out your home.

Savings of up to 40% off your hot water electricity bill is common by using a Gleamous GL5, this could equate to $$$ of dollars savings per year.

Can I replace my electric storage water unit with a new one?

For many people, replacing an old electric hot water system with a similar model is No longer an option.

Government regulations now limit the installation of electric hot water storage units.

Electric Hot Water Systems cannot be installed in any new detached, terrace or town house, or any such existing property where there is access to piped natural gas (some exemptions apply).

From 2012, this will apply to all existing detached, terrace or town houses.

Electric HWS are still available for apartments and other homes where gas, solar or heat pump systems aren’t feasible.

Is the gleamous hot water system expensive to install?

Depending on where you live, and the availability of single or 3 phase power, installation could be as low as a hundred dollars for our DSK 45EP single phase model, so they represent very reasonable electric hot water system prices.

Installation must be done by a qualified electrician, prices vary per installer.

How does electric instantaneous water heaters work?

An instant hot water heater only heats as much water as you need, when you need it. If you turn on the tap, cold water flows through a heat exchanger, switching on an electric element. So there are no heat losses, and as long as there's electricity, you'll never run out of hot water. So it makes sense to pay for only the water you use.

What are the advantages of using a tankless water heater?

Because a Electric tankless water heater turns on when you open a hot water tap and turns off when you close the tap, the energy that is consumed is only for the hot water that is being used. Since there is no storage of hot water, and thus no constant heating and re-heating of stored water, you’re not wasting energy heating water when you don’t need it, such as when you’re sleeping or not at home. This energy savings translates to dollar saving for you and reduced impact on our environment. Furthermore, since a Electric tankless water heater heats the water as you use it, you can have an endless supply of hot water.

Is this a new technology?

No. Europe, Asia and South America, where energy costs are more expensive than here in Australia, have been using Electric tankless water heaters for 75 years.

Will one tankless water heater service my entire house?

Yes. You must choose the proper model to suit your home’s hot water needs, which is based upon the maximum flow of hot water you need at any one time. Gleamous sells the GL5-15 model Electric tankless water heater which has been tested and proven to sustain a 4 bedroom home for all its hot water requirements.

Can it really provide an endless supply of hot water?

Yes. Because Storage tank water heaters store a certain amount of litres, be it 50 to 300 litres of water, when that amount is used up your shower goes cold and have to wait for the heater to heat the water back up (this is known as recovery time). Because a Electric tankless water heater heats the water as it passes through the heater, you can never run out of hot water, and the good thing is, you only pay for the hot water you use. (refer web site energy calculator to do the 10 second test)
